BIO
Mike brings over 28 years of experience as a sworn Special Agent with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. In that capacity, he has conducted numerous investigations including Homicide, Corruption, Embezzlement, and many others. Throughout his tenure, he also worked closely with the United States Secret Service conducting dignitary protection assignments. He also planned and supervised security for three separate Governor’s Inaugurations, and was the security architect and ground supervisor for the 100th Anniversary of Flight Celebration at Kitty Hawk, NC. Mike rounded out his years of service with the NC State Bureau of Investigation as the Special Agent in Charge of the Financial Crimes Unit.
Several years after he retired, Mike was Presidentially appointed and confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as the United States Marshal for the Eastern District of North Carolina. In that capacity, Mike oversaw U.S. Marshals Service Operations for the 44 counties that make up the Eastern District of North Carolina, including Judicial Security for Judges and Courthouses, High Threat Trials, Enforcement, Prisoner Transport and Housing, and Asset Forfeiture.
In the private sector, Mike played a pivotal role in launching the Fraud & Forensics practice at Cherry Bekaert, LLP. He excelled as a consultant conducting forensic financial investigations for corporate clients.
In early 2023, Mike started the Forensic Solutions Group, LLC and he continues to work with law firms, and both corporate and government clients in the areas of forensic financial investigation and internal investigations.
In his spare time, Mike is a sought-after speaker at the Master of Accounting Programs at Virginia Tech, Elon University, and the Virginia Society of CPAs, where he teaches forensic accounting and provides case studies. He also teaches Crisis Negotiation for the NC State Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Eastern District of North Carolina and regularly teaches Homicide Investigation for the NC State Bureau of Investigation’s Academy classes each year.
